Luxurious Celebrity Engagements And Weddings
Celebrity marriages have always made news and captured our attentions and imaginations.
As a rule these marriages do not stand the test of time, but the extravagant affairs still interest us and stay with us long after the marriages are dissolved. Why? Well maybe because they are extraordinary occurrences and deep down inside, we ourselves would like to be part of something so enchanted and lavish.
So what exactly does it take to have a celebrity-style engagement and wedding? A huge rock is step number one! To get started off on the right foot, you need to shell out some serious dollars for a rock that is worthy…and size, in this case, definitely matters. The shiny bauble should be big enough to give a good workout to the ring finger. Celebrities usually go for extremely extravagant engagement rings and stir up quite a buzz, since we’re all interested in that which we cannot have.
Practically everyone has heard about J. Lo.’s 6-carat ultra-trendy pink diamond from Harry Winston. Whereas rocker Chris Robinson’s offering to Kate Hudson was an ”old-fashioned” 5-carat diamond ring.
Guy Ritchie partially designed the Edwardian Ring he presented to Madonna. It was a platinum Neil Lane ring with a decorative band and three large stores symbolizing their family.
Celebrity jewelry can get really outrageous at times. All of Hollywood was shocked when Catherine Zeta-Jones got a 10-carat antique diamond ring from Michael Douglas at their engagement. How does she even lift her hand with that thing on?
The idea of a celebrity wedding can sometimes be fleeting, as in the case of heiress Paris Hilton. Her very short engagement, however, still was quite fruitful in the engagement ring category. Her ring, a promise of things that never came, was worth $4.7 million dollars. Now that’s one expensive promise…and apparently this one was made to be broken.
Singer Christina Aguilera received a 5-carat diamond ring at her engagement. It was designed by jeweler Stephen Webster, who also designed Madonna’s and Guy’s wedding bands.
Not all celebrities, however, choose diamonds for their engagement rings. For Mena Suvari, diamonds weren’t her best friends, she chose her birthstone, amethyst, and accented it with citrines.
For those that actually make it to the aisle, however, the proverbial buck does not stop here. Apart from the huge shiny engagement rings, celebrity weddings also require an immense amount of money.
When Liza Minelli and her husband David Gest got married, they spent $3.5 million on their star-studded gala. Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar got married in a castle in England. This modern-day fairy tale cost them $2.5 million. As for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, it was off to a castle in Italy…and $2 million later, they were husband and wife. Other notable mentions: Paul McCartney’s wedding cost $3 million, whereas Elizabeth Taylor’s and Larry Fortensky’s wedding cost $2 million.
As you can see, celebrities really do their best and spend millions of dollars to make sure that their weddings are bigger and better. As for the rest of us…we can read about it and dream, can’t we?
