Sport Coats Or Suit Coats?
If you’re invited to a particular event and don’t know what to wear — a sport coat or a suit coat — then it’s high time you have a look at the following differences between the two!
1. Style — Suit coats are very formal and official, whereas sport coats are not so. They are less restrictive and rigid while being more casual and informal.
2. Matching — A suit coat needs to be worn with its matching suit pants and a tie. A sport coat can be worn with any pants you choose. And it depends on you — with a tie or without. You also don’t need to match the colors or the fabric.
3. When to wear — You usually wear suit coats when you go to work or to a very important meeting, but you will hardly ever wear them in a club or a party, or even when you go for a walk.
But you can wear sport coats in weddings (both as a guest and as a spouse), on romantic dates, at work and at parties. And the best adjective I can attach to them is “in-duty” for suit coats, whereas sport coats can be both “in-duty” and “off-duty.”
4. Where to wear — Unlike suit coats you can wear sport coats wherever you go. But remember that you will have to wear suit coats on formal dress occasions.
5. Image — When you see a man in a suit coat, you accept him as a very serious and intent person (I don’t know whether you have noticed or not, but these people hardly ever smile, but once they have taken off their suits, they change their look and attitude). But sport coats are simpler, not intense.
6. Prices — Suit coats are very expensive. But sport coats are much cheaper — prices can vary between $29-$599. Believe me, you can get a very good one for under $100.
Whatever you buy, always consider all the pros and cons of your eventual purchase. But if your purpose is to impress people, to attract women’s attention and to look romantic, you should really think about getting a sport coat if you don’t have one yet!
