The Military Look: The Style Of Winners
The Balmain spring runway fashion show announced the return of the military look. In fact, it didn’t go anywhere since last year when John Galliano introduced his military collection.
The military style has re-entered American fashion constantly. All the top fashion designers have tried themselves in military fashion now and then.
The military style first entered American fashion in the 1940s, during the World War II. Then it repeated in 50s, and was really popular in the 70s. The 80s and 90s also adopted the military look.
Perhaps the secret of popularity of the military style is that it reflects social moods. You can see that each time the military style entered world fashion, it was preceded by a war. Take the 70s, in which military style entered American fashion. Some say that it was a form of protest against the war, others say that it reflected people’s psychological state, and a third group says that it was an act of supporting the army.
Regardless of all the opinions, one thing is certain: people do wear military style clothing, and they do like it. And there are reasons for it. When you wear a symmetric bold jacket with metallic buttons, you start feeling confident and strong inside. A military style requires a special attitude that not everyone has.
In military clothing every detail must be thought out, otherwise it risks looking absurd. I guess that’s why top fashion designers are so addicted to it: creating military style clothing is a real challenge to them.
The military style of this spring, lead by Balmain, includes military blazers, glam mini dresses with rough military elements and asymmetric skirts, ragged shirts, shorts and skinny cargo pants. The colors of this season are golden khaki, drab olive and black. The main rules of Balmain military style are ripped, torn elements, combination of masculine and feminine styles and a lot of glam.
If you want to be a part of the military movement this spring, don’t think too much about it! Get a military jacket, black or khaki, with a structured collar and gold or silver buttons. The more military elements it has, like studs and patches, the better! And no matter what you wear under that jacket, it will give you the trendy military look.
